Kisenosato promised to go all out against the yokozuna but it was Hakuho firing on all cylinders, motoring the hefty ozeki out quicker than he could even try a last pulldown attempt. This opened up the yusho race for the other pursuers as well, but all three ozeki among them failed to accompany Hakuho as they lost to the two (relatively) underperforming ozeki or to sekiwake Goeido. Only Okinoumi and Aoiyama managed to keep the pace and go to within one win of Kisenosato. Of course there were two more pursuers right behind Kisenosato, and those won both as Tochiozan and veteran Kyokutenho now share the makuuchi lead at 10-3 with two days to go.
