Along with Kisenosato's promotion, the Nihon Sumo Kyokai also announced the names of the rikishi that will be promoted to the Juryo Division for the upcoming Osaka's Haru Basho in March.

This time there will be a new sekitori, Takasago Beya's Asanoyama (former Ishibashi), who won the Makushita yusho at the Hatsu Basho with a 7-0 record. Besides, Yamahibiki Beya's Kitaharima and Tamanoi Beya's Fujiazuma will come back to Juryo after gaining their sixth and second promotion to the sumo's second division respectively. 

On the other hand, 16 rikishi called it quit:
Makushita: Hishofuji.
Sandanme: Kosei, Wakaryusei, Yoshinokuni, Chikarayama, Shoei.
Jonidan: Haruzakura, Hokutosho, Haguroho, Tsubomi, Tochiimari, Uehara, Sadanoyu, Tochidaiho.
Jonokuchi: Kototakahashi.
Banzuke-gai: Musashitaira.
