(23/01/2010) Asashoryu to be warned for drunken incident

Mongolian sumo grand champion Asashoryu is in trouble again over reports he was involved in a drunken incident in which he hit an acquaintance.

A weekly tabloid magazine reported Friday that Asashoryu was intoxicated after leaving an establishment in Tokyo’s Nishiazabu entertainment district last week. Two police cars were dispatched after about 20 onlookers gathered to witness the alleged altercation in which Asashoryu punched one of his managers, weekly magazine Friday reported. No police report was filed.

Japan Sumo Association chairman Musashigawa said Friday he intends to censure Asashoryu and his stablemaster Takasago for the incident, which allegedly took place on the evening of the sixth day of competition.

In the article which hit newsstands for the Feb 5 edition, Asashoryu is described as being "hammere" after leaving a drinking establishment in downtown Nishiazabu and punching an associate, which turned out to be one of his managers. "We always do this kind of thing. That was no big deal," Asashoryu said when he was asked by reporters about the incident.

Musashigawa said he has already received a report about the details of the incident and an apology from stablemaster Takasago. "This is something that he (Asashoryu) shouldn’t be doing no matter who the person is," Musashigawa said. But the headaches never seem to end for Takasago, who said he reprimanded Asashoryu on Friday.
