Mongolian-born No. 8 maegashira Tokitenku pulled out of the New Grand Sumo Tournament on Tuesday with a dislocated toe.
Tokitenku suffered the injury to his big right toe in his win over seventh-ranked Tamawashi on Monday, the ninth day of the 15-day basho at Ryogoku Kokugikan.
The 30-year-old forfeits Tuesday's scheduled bout against Mokonami. It is the first time Tokitenku has pulled out of a tournament since he made his debut at the Nagoya meet in 2002.
